Yoga - Week 8

It is a short week with just 4 days of Yoga due to a short official visit to neighboring city. Earlier, I got my results of my test I did last week end. The figures didn't change too much from the last time. I am happy that I have been maintaining it for sometime. Still I dont think Yoga attributes this maintenance yet.

My weight has increased by 1/2 a KG and my master asked me to maintain it. I have to start watching what I am eating.

Master also suggested an ayurvedic medicine (it is called a Churnam in Tamil) and actually he bought it for me. Started taking it for the last couple of days. My next visit to the labs will reveal what is the effect of this.

See you next week!!

Weeks 5,6 & 7

Its been quite a gap since I wrote my last blog. I finished saying "fingers crossed" for the test results. Indeed, the figures were on the higher side from my last test. Though they were not too high, I was bit disappointed with them. Lets see how it shapes up in the next test.

Last two weeks, lots of discontinuities in terms of attending the class. One whole week, I was out of the country and back home, I could not go one day. During this period, I did just 3 times.

Last week, it was okay, at least 4 days I attended the class and I even learnt a couple of new exercises. I could sense the pain also in mnay of the parts of my body, especially abdomen area.

The one that I learnt recently was a bit difficult one and I could not balance it even after practicing 3,4 times. I need to give some special attention to it.

See you next week!!

Week 4 of Yoga

Yet another short week due to my travel. I was away for 3 days during this 6 day week. I tried to do Yoga in the hotel room, but for some reason I could not do that. The room was bit small and even for my warm-up exercises I need to stretch my hands. More over, I could not find a straight wall for support so that I could perform other set of Yogic exercises.

That apart, no new posture this week. Probably, due to the 3 days absence, my master thought of not adding anything new.

I have given my blood for testing this week end. Lets see the result, fingers crossed. Last week, my master advised me to take some rice to my surprise as I was bit underweight. After following his advise, I checked my weight this time. It has gone up by atleast 1Kg. Good. See you next week.

Yoga Week 3

This is another short week after Pongal holidays. We gathered on Tuesday. There seem to be more people this time, atleast 4-5 have joined the course. Awareness is spreading, I guess.

I could see that the focus has been on pancreas, thats where my master targets his exercises. After a couple of exercises that impacts my abdomen area, this week, I am taught one more. The exercises seem to be simple for me, as I mentioned earlier in my posts, I guess my teacher has been waiting for my body to get accustomed to bends and become flexible.

I am still not able to bend forward fully. I still feel the pain when try to touch the floor with my fingers while bending forward. This has to be rectified before I am taught some advanced stuff. I am not in a hurry at all. I am good at meditation and I could visualize my sugar levels are maintained due to my aggression in Yoga.

Every Saturday, weight is measured for all the members. My weight has not been consistent. It increased by 1.5 Kilo last week but reduced by 1 kilo this week. Surprisingly I am asked to take some rice to maintain the weight.

In the last week, during one of the week days, I had to travel and to miss the class. I tried to practice the exercises in the morning. I missed a couple of sequences but largely managed to get through.

There are many people, many of them are older than me, are successful in making their body flexible for all the Yoga exercises. They are definitely my inspiration.

Overall, yet another good Yoga week.

Week2 of Yoga

Its a short week due to festival holidays (Pongal). My teacher still didn't seem to be convinced that my body bends. So, the same set of exercises continued.

I complained a bit of back pain. He taught me a simple exercise to counter that. I also tested my sugar levels in the beginning of the week. For the first time in more than a couple of years, the values are at the text book level of normalcy.

I feel that the new medicine did the trick for a maximum. (Incidentally, when I was waiting for the doctor, I saw a poster that was showing all the Yoga postures that would do good for diabetics. I could relate one or two of them with what I am practicing daily).

Towards the end of the week, he taught me a couple of more with a stretching posture also. Overall there were a couple of new exercises that I could learn this week. I am happy for the sugar levels that I am maintaining now.

Thats all for the week. See you next Sunday!

Yoga Week 1

My sugar levels have risen in the recent past to 310. In this new year 2012, what else could be the right resolution other than controlling my sugar levels. It is going to be an all-round attack of this killer.

Last 20 days I keep hearing about Yoga, most of the information is inbound. One of my relatives suggested Baba Ramdev's theraphy for many diseases including Diabetes. Kapal bhati is the technique he suggested. I went through the youtube video of the same.

Next, I bought a book written on the subject Yoga and Diabetes. Techniques that were discussed in the book were hard to practice without a Yoga teacher.

This is the time, I decided to go for a class on Yoga. Co-incidentally, there was an advertisement in the local daily that talked about Yoga therapy for Diabetes. I wanted to give it a try and I called them immediately.

My class started this last week, 2nd Jan 2012. I learnt some warm-up stuff, simple exercises, and a couple of yoga postures. Just one more stretching exercise was added on the fifth day of the course. Otherwise pretty much I have been practicing the same exercise for the last 6 days. I was told that I might experience some body pain after 2,3 days. However, I didn't feel any difference, I guess the movements that I do are probably simple.

My weight was 70.3 on enrollment day, but has increased about a kilo on the 6th day. The reason could be the rice that I ate on the previous night and the banana, my teacher said.

Though my teacher has been advising me to take some 'Kashayam', I somehow keep forgetting it. I need to start that. While performing some of the exercises I overhear other people saying how their sugar levels have come to a great control. I feel happy about coming to a right place.

I am thinking of writing a blog after every week of my Yoga.
